What Is National Immunization Awareness Month?

August is a period of annual observance for National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). Its purpose is to emphasize the importance of vaccination for people of all ages, races, genders, sexualities, and other demographics.

Whether you’re getting vaccinated against COVID-19, RSV, or the flu, immunization is ultimately a public good that helps to keep everybody healthy.

What to Know about TriCom’s Insurance

Through TriCom’s Mertain/Aetna Network medical insurance, you can receive an annual wellness visit and have a $0 copay. Because wellness visits typically include updated immunizations, you can stay up to date on your vaccines for free through TriCom. This is a reminder to schedule your flu shot this fall!

3 Reasons to Stay Up-to-Date on Vaccines

There are many reasons to stay updated on your immunizations. To participate in National Immunization Awareness Month, we’ve highlighted just a few of those reasons below:

1. Vaccines save lives: Advances in science and medicine have led to vaccines that save people of all ages from a slate of diseases. However, many people still die from diseases that could have been prevented if they received the proper vaccination.
2. They are a public good: Getting vaccinated is not just a means of keeping yourself healthy; it’s also a way to protect your community. A vaccine means you won’t spread certain diseases to friends, family, or strangers. This is especially important if people in your community are immunocompromised or have a serious health condition.
3. They’re safe and heavily regulated: The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and other medical experts thoroughly and continually review vaccines to ensure they are safe before releasing them to the public. Side effects such as fever, fatigue, body aches, and redness may occur, but mild reactions typically go away within a few days. More serious and enduring side effects are extremely rare.
