How Converting Data Sets Led to Better Processes Company-Wide
The Challenge
As a candidate, it’s only natural to have some doubts about taking a contract-for-hire IT job. But with TriCom, the CFH experience is beneficial for everyone involved.
You’re able to get acclimated to a new role and culture before you start as a full-time employee. Think of it as a test run, and if you enjoy your time there, then chances are you’ll become a part of their team. It’s called “contract-to-hire” for a reason.
This process allows candidates to try before they buy. Like the client, you get to live in the environment for a while before you become a full-time employee. We are also your advocate through the process, helping with salary negotiation and advising you on how it stands up in the overall marketplace. The benefits we offer are also the top 1% of all other benefit programs, which puts our candidates’ minds at ease during the contract period.
Clients see a similar value in that try-before-you-buy approach, and it also allows them to take some risk off the table in making an incorrect decision. The incorrect decisions are mostly due to bad culture fits, and that is extremely hard to vet for in an interview process. CFH positions give you the opportunity to demonstrate why you’d make a great addition to the team, rather than simply tell them.
Think about it like getting engaged before marriage. The vast majority of clients we work with have a full-time role but want to see a work sample beforehand, the work sample being a contract position. In other words, when the contract period nears its end, 99% of the time a full-time offer is coming.
To further demonstrate why CFH is a win-win situation, we’ve put together this case study to highlight three of our candidates who recently converted with one of our clients, an insurance agency located in our home base of Kansas City.
When Jessica initially accepted the contract-for-hire position with our client, she was admittedly nervous. Not only was she about to start her new career at a high-profile KC company, but she’s also a single parent with a mortgage to pay.
“Whenever I change jobs, there is overwhelming anxiety that I could lose it early on and struggle to get a new role,” she said. “I didn't want to end up in that situation, or in the situation that I would get to the end of my contract date and they wouldn't hire me.”
Fortunately, we alleviated her worries. “I loved the experience of meeting my account executive the first day to walk in, and then bringing doughnuts for me to share with everyone. It made it easy to meet people the first day. I heard from my account executive and recruiter regularly to check in on how I was, and they were always available for questions.”
For Lanse, who has taken a help desk role with the same company, it was his first time accepting a contract position. All his concerns were assuaged when he realized that he’d have comprehensive benefits like PTO, paid holidays, and fully covered health and dental care.
“It makes [contract-for-hire] feel like a real job,” he said. “The way TriCom goes about it makes it feel like a great job as opposed to a trial period before you get to the good part. I was still going to get the holiday pay. I was still building PTO. You really feel like a contract with TriCom puts you in a good position. It felt like you were working toward something from the very beginning.”
Mass layoffs in the rapidly changing IT landscape led Ricky to search for a new job, and he used TriCom’s services to get his resume noticed by some of the biggest tech companies in Kansas City. At first, he was reluctant to take a contract-for-hire position, but those reservations quickly dissipated.
“Is this company trustworthy? How is this going to work out,” he wondered. “But what made me gung-ho about it was my recruiter Brian. He told me that a lot of people get their contracts renewed, and it ended up being exactly what Brian said.” When Ricky joined our client’s team, he realized that what we told him was an honest portrayal of what to expect. That built his trust not only with our client, but also with TriCom’s team.
TriCom is here for you every step of the way. The IT recruiting process with us isn’t a one-and-done occurrence. It’s a relationship built to last for your entire career. Our recruiters and account executives will keep you in touch with you to make sure you’re happy with your role and that it’s headed in a direction befitting your long-term professional goals.
“Contract-to-hire got me into a role I don't know I would have been interviewed for if I'd applied to it on my own,” Jessica said. “I've ended up having a chance to really nail this job, so much so that they converted me to a full-time associate before my contract was up. I am forever grateful to TriCom for helping me get here.”
Lanse considers himself “a big proponent of TriCom.” He’s especially grateful to Tracie Mitchell, our recruiter who helped him land the position. “Her attention to detail and actually caring about your success” went a long way for him.
For Ricky, he knew he had someone, namely Brian, at TriCom to vouch for him. At the outset, he signed a six-month contract with our client, and Brian followed up with Ricky over the course of those six months to ensure that the position was what he wanted. “That was a huge benefit I didn’t realize,” he said. Ricky could tell that we were truly invested in his success and happiness.
That’s because we believe that it matters who you work with. Everyone deserves to feel fulfilled through the work that they do. If you’re ready to advance your career and find a position that’s aligned with your interests, then contact us online today. We’d love to hear from you.
